A plastic kit of the British aircraft carrier Ark Royal in the small 1:600 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The name Ark Royal is among the best known in the Royal Navy and was carried by an aircraft carrier, that is a ship with a continuous flight deck and the command superstructure set out to one side. Ships like this carry an air group of their own and their silhouette is recognizable even in a small scale, because it is made up above all of the long straight deck and the island of the superstructure.
The kit consists of plastic parts on sprues in 1:600 scale, which is established for ship models in this range and allows even a large ship to be built within a reasonable width of display case. The parts are glued with an ordinary modeling cement for polystyrene. Once they are taken off the sprue, sand down the remains of the gates and the parting seams, above all on the sides of the hull, where they show clearly once it is painted.
Glue the hull together and fill the seams before you start painting, otherwise the joint will stay visible under the coat. The flight deck is the largest continuous surface of the model, so spray it in thin coats and let it dry properly; an uneven coat catches the eye most here. Fit the fine equipment parts at the very end and set the model on a base, so that the deck does not have to be held by hand.
The set is for ship modelers who want a large vessel in a manageable size and for collectors of naval subjects. The package contains only the plastic parts of the kit, unless stated otherwise; the paints, the glue and a base are not included.
