O-max is the Omask name for a combined set that holds more than masks alone: to the cut masks it adds foam plugs for the landing gear bays. You therefore get two different masking aids in one box. The set is intended for models of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4 and E-7 in 1:72 scale by Special Hobby and Eduard. It is not a kit: it is an accessory for painting a model.
The masks give sharp, clean color boundaries where they would be hard to reach by laying tape by hand. The foam plugs are pressed into the landing gear bays and keep paint from the airbrush out of these deeply recessed cavities; the bays are exactly where paint gets in most easily and where cleaning it out afterwards is all but impossible. The result is the familiar saving of time and nerves: the bay keeps its own color, the skin gets its camouflage and nothing has to be laboriously repainted with a brush.
The Bf 109 E, nicknamed Emil, was the main German fighter type during the Battle of Britain. The E-7 version differed from the E-4 mainly in having a rack under the fuselage that could carry a drop tank or a bomb. Limited range was long the weak point of the Emils; a drop tank went some way toward solving it, and the same rack also allowed the aircraft to be used as a fighter-bomber.
Stick the mask to a degreased and dust-free surface, otherwise paint runs under the edge. Never pull it over the edge of a part. Take it off while the paint is still fresh, not once it has fully cured; a cured coat tears as the mask is peeled away. Take the plugs out only after the coat has dried. Note that the masks are cut for particular kits and need not fit a kit from another maker.
The set contains masks and plugs. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
