Borgward B3000 1:72 (Roden)

An injection-molded plastic model of the German truck Borgward B3000 in 1:72 scale from the Roden brand. It is a small but detailed model of the three-ton truck that was the backbone of German supply in the Second World War. The box contains gray plastic parts and a clear part for the glazing; several finish and marking options from different theaters are available.

The real subject

The Borgward B3000 was a standardized medium truck with a payload of around three tons, built by the Bremen firm of Carl F. W. Borgward. Originally a civilian type, it was quickly taken over by the Wehrmacht for military logistics and deployed from the early 1940s on many fronts, from the Balkans through the Eastern Front to North Africa. It served to carry cargo and troops and also as a chassis for all manner of bodies, in the rear areas and with combat units alike.

Building and painting tips

Glue the small parts in 1:72 scale with liquid modeling cement for plastic and work with a sharp scalpel and tweezers. Paint the chassis, the engine compartment and the cab interior before closing up and fitting the body. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush in thin coats; German gray or the later camouflage is brought to life by accentuating the panels with a wash and by mud or dust effects with pigments.
