An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer MAC Distribution captures the German three-ton Opel Blitz truck with an open cab, on whose bed a 2 cm Flak 38 anti-aircraft gun is mounted. The form corresponds to the vehicles of the German Africa Corps (Deutsches Afrika Korps). It is a short-run molding, with which it is advisable to expect more careful cleaning up of the parts. The contents of the package and any photo-etched extras depend on the particular release.
The Opel Blitz was the most widespread Wehrmacht truck of the Second World War. In improvised anti-aircraft versions it carried the quick-firing 2 cm Flak 38 gun on the load bed, which served to defend convoys against low-flying aircraft and against ground targets as well. In North Africa the vehicles received a light desert finish and the insignia of the Afrika Korps.
Assemble and clean up the chassis, the wheels and the gun mount before closing up the bed, as they are harder to reach later. Short-run plastic benefits from sanding the seams and cleaning off the flash. For the desert scheme, choose a base in a sand yellow shade and lighten the transitions with a dry brush. The weathering is completed by brown and dust washes and fine pigments on the wheels and the underside of the vehicle, which suggest use in the desert.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
