A plastic figure set of grenadiers of the French Old Guard in 1:72 scale from the Russian manufacturer Zvezda. The package holds 41 figures in twelve poses, in fairly hard plastic, unpainted and with no decals. The box places the set in the period of the Napoleonic Wars. It is a large set from which a whole infantry formation can be built.
The Old Guard was the elite core of the Imperial Guard and Napoleon's last reserve. You will recognize the grenadiers by the tall bearskin cap with a red plume, the blue coat with white lace and the white cross belts. As a rule they went into action only at the decisive moment, and that is exactly why their commitment at Waterloo in 1815 is so famous. Only veterans who had served out their campaigns got into the Guard, which matched both their reputation and their nickname grognards, meaning the grumblers.
Figures in this scale are best painted in groups: first a black primer, then the blue coat, the white items and finally the metal and the flesh. The bearskin cap wants matte black and a light dry brush, so that the texture of the fur comes out. With a larger number of figures a simple template helps, so that the plumes are the same height and the rank looks even.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
