Under the designation Pz.Sfl.IVa a German self-propelled gun was built on a chassis derived from the Panzer IV tank and fitted with a long 10.5 cm gun. The task of the machine was to destroy fortifications and hardened targets at long range, that is work for which ordinary tank armament fell short. Only a few were built and the vehicle never reached series production, yet it saw combat on the Eastern Front. Among the soldiers the nickname Dicker Max took hold for it, and this kit carries it too. What stands out is the tall open superstructure with its frontal shield and the massive barrel, which reaches well beyond the outline of the hull.

An open superstructure means that the fighting compartment is visible. Paint whatever will be visible once assembled before you close the walls of the superstructure, because a brush will not reach in there afterwards. Glue the long barrel in one operation and let it dry horizontally, so that it does not settle to one side. The running gear and the lower hull will take heavy dusting, while the upper surfaces will take only a light touch, or the model will lose its sense of scale.
It suits collectors of German equipment of the Second World War and everyone who likes unusual machines outside the main lines. In 1:72 scale it takes up little room in a display case and is rewarding as the basis of a small diorama too.
