The IAR 80 was a Romanian single-seat fighter, a cantilever low-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear and a radial engine of domestic manufacture. It appeared at the end of the 1930s, and its design drew on features of an aircraft that the Romanian works had until then been building under license. The machines served with the Romanian Air Force during the Second World War on the Eastern Front and in the defense of their own country, and in later years they gave way to more modern types. The version designated B is one of the later production standards.
It is a classic plastic model meant to be glued and painted. The parts are injection-molded in polystyrene and are glued with ordinary modeling cement. The extent of the box, the number of sprues and the marking options for individual aircraft are described in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
Before gluing, clean the remains of the gates off the parts and sand the mating surfaces lightly so that the fuselage halves close without a gap. Finish and paint the cockpit before the fuselage is closed. With a radial engine it pays to paint the cylinders and their shadows before it goes into the cowling, because access is limited afterwards. Glue the clear parts with a cement meant for clear parts. Wash and degrease the model before spraying and lay the paint on in thin coats so that the engraved panel lines stay legible.
The kit will please modelers interested in aviation of the Second World War beyond the best-known types, as well as collectors of fighters in 1:72 scale. The package contains only the kit. Paints, glue and add-on sets are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
