A set of printed decals with relief detail for the cockpit of the four-engined long-range reconnaissance aircraft Junkers Ju 290 A-5 in 1:72 scale, prepared for the Revell kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Junkers Ju 290 grew out of the prewar Ju 90 transport and found its most important role over the ocean during the war. Machines of the A-5 version flew from the autumn of 1943 with a long-range reconnaissance group from French bases, hundreds of kilometers out over the Atlantic, searching for Allied convoys and passing their positions to the submarine wolf packs. Compared with the earlier series, the A-5 received heavier armor for the pilot compartment and better placed defensive armament, because the hunter was more and more often becoming the prey of carrier fighters.
The decals are printed in color and in layers, so they have real thickness. The dials get glossy glass, the frames stand above the panel and the side consoles with their switches look three-dimensional even under a magnifier. They are applied to the smooth plastic parts of the cockpit, which therefore need no laborious hand painting or dry brushing. The sheet also holds the seat belts for the pilot seats.
The result shows above all at the two-seat station behind the glazed nose, which is unusually roomy on this type. The kit itself is not included in the package.
