A set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks for the clear parts of a Junkers Ju 52 model in 1:72 scale, intended for the Heller kit. It is not a kit: it is an accessory to a model you already have. The manufacturer is the Czech brand Omask, which runs its glazing masks as a separate range.
The Ju 52 has enormous cockpit glazing and a row of windows in the fuselage on top of that. Cutting that many frames out of masking tape by hand is a nightmare: every frame has to be straight, of the same width and exactly on the edge, and one slip of the blade is enough for the result to show on the model. That is precisely why this product exists. The masks are cut to the shape of the part, so you get straight and sharp glazing frames in a fraction of the time hand masking would take.
The Junkers Ju 52, nicknamed Tante Ju (Auntie Ju), is a legendary three-engine transport aircraft with an unmistakable corrugated metal skin. It carried passengers, freight and paratroopers and became famous as an exceptionally tough and dependable machine. It flew long after the war, and it has a Czech chapter too: after 1945 the Ju 52 was flown in Czechoslovakia and the restored Czechoslovak Airlines opened their postwar service on them, including the first international routes. They disappeared from service there only during the 1950s.
The glazing has to be clean and degreased, as a mask does not hold on fingerprints and paint creeps under the edge. Press the mask into the frame exactly with a toothpick and do not pull it over the edge of the part. Spray thin coats; a heavy coat builds a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays behind once it is peeled off. Peel the mask off while the paint is not yet fully cured, as a cured finish likes to tear when the mask comes away and goes with it where it should not. And take care: the mask is cut exactly to the parts of a particular kit and need not fit a kit from another manufacturer.
The set contains masks only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
