The Kamov Ka-52 is a Russian two-seat attack helicopter that uses a pair of coaxial contra-rotating rotors instead of a tail rotor. The crew sits side by side, two turboshaft engines are mounted on the sides of the fuselage and hinged service covers run above them. An open engine section is one of the most rewarding subjects on this machine, because it reveals a space that stays hidden on an ordinarily built model.
The accessory covers the left-hand side of the machine, that is, the side known as portside. Besides the engine itself it brings the engine bay and the cover, so the model can be finished with the engine section exposed, with the cover swung into the service position, or with the cover removed and laid beside the helicopter. The shaping matches Dream Model kits and Quinta Studio accessory sets in 1:72 scale.
The material of the parts is not polystyrene, so solvent cement for plastic models does not hold. Use cyanoacrylate glue and try the parts dry in the fuselage opening first. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder with fine abrasive paper. Before spraying, wash the set in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry thoroughly. In 1:72 scale these are small parts, so it pays to work with tweezers and to reach for a thin coat of primer when painting, so that the detail is not lost. The manufacturer's instructions describe how to prepare the parts.
The set is meant for more experienced modelers who want to add an open engine section to a model or to build a whole maintenance scene. The package contains only the parts of the port engine section. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
