A replacement canopy for a model of the Japanese Nakajima Ki-43-I Hayabusa fighter. The glazing of a cockpit is one of the most conspicuous places on a finished model: it is looked through into the inside and every unevenness or thick frame shows at once. A replacement part is therefore a rewarding improvement even on an otherwise well-made kit, especially when you want the elaborate interior to be visible in the cockpit.
The Ki-43 Hayabusa was a Japanese army fighter with a radial engine, light and exceptionally agile, which served from the beginning of the fighting in the Pacific until the end of the war. Version I is the earliest production form and differs from the later machines in the shape and the division of the glazing as well, so a replacement canopy has to be chosen according to the particular version.
First offer the part up dry to the fuselage and check how it seats; small differences from the kit part can be trued by carefully sanding the mating edge. Glue the canopy with an adhesive intended for transparent parts, which leaves no clouding once dry, and apply it in small amounts. Mask the glazing before painting and paint only the frames; take the mask off once the paint has dried. The specific procedure and the recommended kits are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The model, paints, glue and masking material are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
