The classic injection-molded kit 1:72 Mitsubishi Ki-46-II Dinah (Vintage Classics) brings the Japanese long-range reconnaissance aircraft in the retro range from Airfix of Britain.

Airfix is returning to its range its classic kit of the Japanese long-range reconnaissance aircraft Ki-46-II, to which the Allies assigned the code name Dinah. The Vintage Classics range builds on a proven older mold, which the manufacturer completes with a new decal sheet and a period-styled box. The result carries the stamp of modeling nostalgia and fits a collection built to a single size.
The twin-engined Ki-46 came about as a reconnaissance aircraft meant to escape fighters through clean aerodynamics and high-altitude performance. A slim fuselage of oval cross section and slender engine nacelles made it one of the most elegantly shaped machines of the Second World War. The Ki-46-II version received more powerful radial engines and from 1941 flew over China, Burma and the South Pacific. The crew consisted of a pilot and an observer seated in two separate compartments of the long glazed canopy.
Older molds reward patience: dry-fit the parts first, then fill and sand the seams on the nacelles and in the wing roots. The cockpit glazing is a dominant feature, so it pays to mask the frames with narrow tape and to spray in thin coats. A smooth base belongs under both silvery and green camouflage, ideally over a surfacer applied with an airbrush.
The package contains parts in hardened polystyrene; paints, glue and other modeling supplies are obtained separately.
