Injection-molded plastic model of the American North American P-51H Mustang fighter in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand RS Models. It is a short-run kit with finely engraved surfaces and clear cockpit parts; some releases add small resin details and decals for several US Air Force finishes. The P-51H was the lightened and fastest production version of the famous Mustang.
The P-51H was the last large-scale production version of the Mustang, substantially lightened and aerodynamically refined compared with the better-known P-51D. It was powered by the Packard V-1650, the license-built Rolls-Royce Merlin, and was among the fastest piston fighters of its day. It saw practically no combat in the Second World War; it served in the postwar years, among other places with Air National Guard (ANG) units.
As with most short-run kits, dry-fit the parts first, clean up the sprue gates and adjust the joints - the molds have no locating pins. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement for plastic, and wash any resin parts to remove the mold release agent, separate them from the casting blocks and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The natural metal finish of the Mustang rewards a good smooth base and metallic shades applied with an airbrush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
