The small raised features on the surface of a real aircraft, that is, rivet heads, doublers and covers, are hard to engrave into plastic and even harder to line up into regular rows. Riveting decals get around that work: the elements are lined up in regular rows on a film in advance and are simply transferred onto the model. This sheet carries rectangles, rectangles with rounded corners and ovals in white, in a size of 0.10 mm and with a gap of 0.4 mm between the elements, and is prepared for 1:72 scale.
These are ordinary wet decals. First spray the surface of the model and go over it with gloss varnish so no air bubbles stay under the film. Cut out the section you need as close to the edge as possible, soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until the backing paper releases. Move the elements into place, line them up in a row and press the water out from under them with a soft cloth or a cotton swab. A decal softener settles the film onto rounded surfaces and against panel edges.
Work in short sections, as a longer strip is harder to line up and breaks easily. Mark the position of the rows on the model in advance with a pencil or masking tape. Once dry and coated with matte varnish, the elements merge into the surface and only the relief is left, so they can be painted over together with the surrounding area.
For the modeler who wants legible riveting in a small scale without engraving and drilling. The set contains no model, paints, varnishes or softener, unless stated otherwise.
