Zvezda 1:72 Siege machines, set No. 1 is a plastic kit set of medieval siege machines intended as an accessory for dioramas.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of medieval siege machines in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Zvezda. It is listed among accessories for dioramas and that is exactly where it belongs: these are not stand-alone models for a display case but the backdrop and the main features of a scene, around which a siege scene with infantry and a wall gets built. The parts are of plastic and are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Siege equipment is rewarding in a diorama precisely because it is large, angular and wooden. It creates a dominant feature in height, breaks up the monotonous surface of a base and gives the figures something to do, which is the greatest difference between a static display case and a living scene. In 1:72 scale the set also combines well with ordinary sets of medieval figures and with a wall or a gate of your own making.
Wood is the essential theme here. Do not rely on one brown shade; lay down a medium brown base and then break it up: a lighter drybrush along the edges, a dark wash into the joints and finally a few randomly placed streaks of a different shade, so that the beams do not look like one piece. The engraved pattern of the growth rings can be picked out with a thin scratch of a scalpel blade run along the grain. Darken the metal fittings, but do not paint them black, as a dark gray-brown with a hint of rust is more believable. Ropes and cords of plastic are worth replacing with real thread soaked in thinned glue. Complete the base with earth, grass and scattered stones, as a siege machine without broken-up terrain looks like a model on a table.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
