A colored relief print for the cockpit of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb fighter in 1:72 scale. It carries the instrument panel, the side frames, the control column and the seat belts. The cut matches the kit from Eduard.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb received the Merlin 45 engine and a wing with two 20 mm cannon backed by four machine guns. More of it was built than of any other version and it flew from everywhere, from English bases through dusty Malta to North Africa, where the machines carried a conspicuous filter under the nose. It was this very variant that bore the main weight of the fighting in 1941 and 1942.
British cockpits were not black. They carried a lighter gray-green shade against which the dark instruments stand out markedly, and that is good news for a model: the contrast is high and all you have to do is not lose it. The relief print brings in the circular blind flying panel with its six instruments, the feature by which an English cockpit is recognized at first glance.
The depth comes from the tube frames along the sides and the light belts, whose metal buckle carries a metallic sheen. The control column with its cross grip stands out from the panel enough to be made out even through a closed canopy. The result looks like a cockpit assembled from several parts, yet it came from a single sheet. Anyone building a whole series of British fighters will appreciate that the same level of interior can be repeated on each of them without hours of work with the finest brush.
The set is cut for the cockpit of the kit from Eduard; the model is sold separately.
