An accessory set in 1:72 scale, not a vehicle kit. It contains replacement wheels with underinflated tires, that is with a visibly flattened contact patch and slightly bulging sidewalls. It is precisely this detail that turns a model of a heavy tractor into a machine with real weight on the road — the wheels from a kit tend to be perfectly round and the scene then looks static. The wheels are supplied as castings to be cleaned up and painted.
The MAZ-537G is a heavy wheeled tractor with all-wheel drive, used for towing semi-trailers with oversized loads, typically in combination with a lowboy trailer. Such a machine is characterized by massive tires with a coarse tread that deform noticeably under load. A model of the tractor in 1:72 is fairly small, so a set of replacement wheels is one of the few modifications whose effect is immediately visible.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting residue off so that the cut falls on the contact patch of the tire, where it will then be hidden by contact with the base. Before gluing, check that the wheel hub will sit on the axle of the basic kit — on replacement sets the hole sometimes needs opening up with a drill. Glue the wheels with cyanoacrylate and make sure the flattening points downward and that all the wheels stand in one plane. Do not paint the tires black but dark gray with a slight hint of brown; once dry, dust them with fine pigments into the tread and the sidewalls. Separate the rims by masking or paint them before fitting.
