A set of unpainted figures of Royal Air Force personnel in 1:76 scale. It will bring an airfield diorama or a display scene with an aircraft model to life.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set shows personnel of the Royal Air Force. People around an aircraft give a scene both scale and a story: without figures beside the fuselage the viewer can only guess at the size of the machine. Figures in 1:76 scale are fractionally smaller than accessories in 1:72, but in the background of a scene the two sizes sit side by side without any jarring difference.
The figures are supplied unpainted, on sprues. Once you have taken them off, cut the remains of the gate away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the spot flat; go over the parting seam around the figure as well. It pays to clean up the small areas of the face and the hands before you set the figure on a base, because once it is glued down they are hard to reach.
Wash and degrease the parts before painting, as paint holds less well on a greasy surface. A primer proves its worth, followed by the block shades of the uniform and finally a darker glaze in the folds, which pulls the shadows out. Picking out the edges with a dry brush gives a small figure the depth that flat color alone cannot give in this scale. Place the figures so that they are doing something in the scene rather than just standing in a row.
The set suits models of British aircraft, airfield dioramas and display scenes where the activity around a parked machine is meant to show. The package contains figures only, unless stated otherwise; the aircraft model, paints and glue are not included.
