A plastic kit of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR in 1:9 scale from the manufacturer Meng. An important note straight away: the ZX-10RR is not the same as the ZX-10R, because the second R means a homologation special, not an ordinary production supersport (the difference is set out below). The 1:9 scale is very large for a motorcycle, and the built model measures about 23 cm in length and roughly 13 cm in height. The package combines injection-molded plastic parts with metal parts, photo-etched parts and rubber (soft) parts, the seat and the tires with a faithful texture, plus waterslide decals. The front and rear suspension and the steering damper are movable, the brake discs have a stainless texture and the model reproduces the seven-spoke forged Marchesini wheels that are typical of the RR version.
The ZX-10RR is a homologation special: built in limited numbers so that Kawasaki could use the technology in question in superbike racing. It shares its basis with the production ZX-10R, a liquid-cooled inline four of 998 cc, DOHC, 16 valves, but it has different pistons and a reworked engine: titanium connecting rods and lighter pistons, thanks to which it takes higher revs, along with an intake tuned for maximum power at the top of the range, forged Marchesini wheels, a single seat and braided brake hoses. It is built in small numbers. Anyone looking for the civil road version needs the ZX-10R model (with a single R), which has three-spoke wheels.
The bodywork is glossy and gloss reveals every mistake: sand the parting seams, smooth the surface by wet sanding through several grits and only then spray the filler and the paint; a gloss clear coat comes at the end. The sponsor decals go onto strongly curved areas of the bodywork, so have a decal softener ready, because otherwise a decal will lift and create silvered edges. Build and paint the engine, the frame and the exhaust before you cover them with the bodywork. Degrease the metal and photo-etched parts and prime them. Do not glue the rubber tires with cement for plastic, but use super glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
