The shade 17 Africa brown of the Revell Email Color range is a synthetic enamel (solvent-based) paint, not an acrylic. It comes in a metal tinlet of 14 ml and has a flat degree of sheen. It is thinned with Revell Color Mix, or with mineral spirits, never with water. The paint does not react aggressively with polystyrene, so it can be applied straight onto plastic parts with a brush and with an airbrush. Please note that this is a modeling paint, not a kit.
Stir the paint thoroughly right down to the bottom before use, because the pigment settles. For the airbrush, thin it with Color Mix to the consistency of milk and spray in thin coats. It can usually be recoated after a few hours, and full curing takes about a day.
Weathering is the key with this paint. Desert vehicles were in practice heavily bleached by the sun and covered in dust, so a freshly painted model in a saturated brown looks unrealistic. Lighten the shade, for instance by mixing a lighter sand tone into the upper surfaces, then use a darker wash into the recesses and finally a dry brush or dust pigments on the edges, fenders and running gear.
Safety: a flammable liquid, and the vapors irritate the airways. Work in a well ventilated space and use respiratory protection when spraying with an airbrush. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition.
