An injection-molded plastic kit of the single-seat Canadian version of the Starfighter in 1:48 scale. Kinetic issues the Starfighter family in several boxes according to operator and version, and this one concentrates on the CF-104. Kinetic also makes the two-seat Canadian variant; the two differ in the airframe, not just in the decals.
The Starfighter was designed as a fast aircraft with a very thin, short wing and a powerful jet engine. The Canadian CF-104 version was built under license and was adapted for tasks over Europe, where it served as part of NATO commitments and later in the reconnaissance role too. The type is famous for its performance as well as for its demanding handling, and among modelers it is one of the icons of the Cold War.
The thin wing is the recognition feature of this type, so sand the leading edges perfectly smooth after filling and do not round them off. The cockpit and the ejection seat are clearly visible through the large canopy. The long flat surfaces of the fuselage betray every imperfection, so it pays to work with a filler primer. Metal and silver finishes call for a smooth base, otherwise metallic paint will emphasize every scratch.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
