AK Learning 12: Painting Female Figures

A publication, not a kit — neither a figure nor paints are in the package. The AK Learning series is conceived differently from the extensive F.A.Q. guides: each part takes one narrow topic and works through it practically, step by step. The twelfth part is devoted to painting female figures, that is to a sub-branch of figure modeling that has pitfalls of its own.

Why it is a topic in its own right

• Finer facial features take less contrast — the same shading as on a soldier looks coarse on a female figure.
• A greater share of bare skin means more area on which both the tone and a smooth transition have to be right.
• Hair and flowing fabrics are painted differently from uniform cloth and equipment.
• The smaller volumes of the figure force you to work with thinned paint and more layers.

The number of pages, the format and the language of the edition are given on the cover of the booklet. The Learning series moreover comes out in several language versions under separate codes. If you need a particular language version, check it before ordering.

Who it is for

For figure modelers and for builders of dioramas in which a female character forms the civilian or service part of the scene, and for players of tabletop games who paint smaller scales and want to raise the level of their faces. The text is technical and aimed at the craft of painting, not at an account of the subject. If you have painted mainly equipment so far, expect a figure to be a different discipline: it is decided over a few square millimeters and an error in the tone of the skin shows sooner than the best work on the rest of the model.
