A fantasy figure from the AK Interactive brand. The figure of 35 mm gives the size of the figure, not the scale of a model. It is supplied unpainted, so the color scheme and the technique are up to you. An interesting route with figures of this kind is underpainting, that is a colored underlayer that you let show through the layers above it.
Underpainting is an old painterly technique that works as well on figures as it does on canvas. The principle is simple: over the primer you lay a colored base that is not meant to be seen directly but is meant to influence everything that comes after it. A cool blue-green underpainting beneath skin pulls the shadows into a natural tone, while a warm ocher underpainting beneath cloth brightens the whole area instead. Over the underpainting the colors are then applied as glazes, and only where they are meant to cover are they brought up to strength. Gradual highlighting from an underpainting has the advantage that the shadows do not have to be painted at all, because they are already laid on the figure in advance; you only reduce the area onto which you lay the lighter layers. With each further step the pass gets smaller, until the last and lightest is left on a very small area. The mistake to avoid is covering the underpainting completely with the second layer. In that case you have done extra work for no effect whatsoever.
The figure is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
