Eight shades for knights and adventurers

The set is put together so that a whole figure of a fighter can come out of it, not just a part of one. The basic light comes from the shade of bone white, which serves for bones, skulls, linen strips and light decoration. The leather belts, straps and harness are the target of a brown in a leather tone, complemented by two darker browns, one of which has a greenish cast and suits dirt and animal hide.

The dense earth shade from the group of dense colors deserves a separate mention. These paints have a higher proportion of pigment, so they cover even on a dark base in one pass, which saves work on the large areas of a cloak or a shield.

Metal and three washes

The metallic shade in the set covers blades, buckles and chain mail. Over it and over everything else come the three washes, that is, heavily thinned paints that run into the engraving and the recesses by themselves and create a shadow. One is earthy brown, the second has a sepia tone suited to wood and leather and the third is black for the sharpest contrast.

The paints are acrylic and are thinned with water, so brushes are cleaned without chemicals. Work in thin coats, because one dense coat floods the engraving, of which a figure has the most on the face and on the armor. Let the washes dry completely, and only then comes dry brushing on the edges. Close the bottles right after use, as acrylic dries quickly at the rim. If the set is used with an airbrush, expect further thinning and lower pressure, because the denser shades have a thicker consistency than ordinary modeling paints.
