A plastic figure kit from the line of cartoon and foreshortened models of the Chinese maker Meng. The figures have deliberately stylized proportions, a large head and a short body, so they are in no reduction scale and cannot be combined with models in 1:35 or 1:72.
The Meng line of cartoon models renders uniformed figures and equipment into a simplified, caricatured form. The uniform, the helmet and the personal equipment stay recognizable, but the shapes are rounded and the details simplified. The same line also includes further separate packages with other figures, so the figures can be composed into a group in the same visual style.
Stylized figures are rewarding for a quick build, but painting has its rules. The large continuous areas of the uniform need an even base; apply thin layers, otherwise even the simplified folds will be lost. Make the contrast with a sharper transition rather than with fine shading; a more graphic treatment suits stylized shapes. The face is the largest area of the figure and decides the result, so paint it separately and before setting the head onto the body. If the parts are molded in color, use a primer anyway, so that the paint holds on the edges of the parts. Sand the mold seams off carefully; on smooth rounded surfaces they are seen more than with realistic figures.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
