Cork Sheet Fine Grained 200 x 290 x 6 mm (AK interactive)

A cork sheet measuring 200 x 290 x 6 mm with a fine grain, intended as a building material for dioramas. In modeling, cork is used where the volume of terrain has to be created quickly and lightly: rises, terrain steps, banks, embankments or a base under paving and track. Compared with plaster or modeling compounds it has the advantage of being worked dry, it does not warp the base with moisture and the finished scene stays light. The fine grain of this variant suits smoother surfaces and cut edges that are not meant to look coarsely broken.

Use

• It is cut with a sharp modeling knife along a ruler; against a blunt blade cork crumbles, so change the blade more often than with plastic.
• By layering several pieces over one another you get terrain steps, slopes and steps in the terrain without having to model the mass.
• A broken edge with an irregular fracture serves well as a rock face or the broken edge of a roadway.
• It is bonded with PVA glue (white glue) or with a hot glue gun; before painting it is a good idea to seal the surface, so that the porous cork does not soak up paint out of all proportion.
• The six-millimeter thickness is a good compromise between stiffness and easy cutting: it can be bent into a gentle curve without cracking.
