CR-2 Primary Color Pigments - Magenta Gloss (Cellulose)

What a primary color is for

CR-2 is the magenta component of the trio of primary colors, which the cyan CR-1 and the yellow CR-3 complete. Magenta is the strongest of the whole trio in mixing: with yellow it gives orange and red tones, with cyan purples and crimsons, and in a small admixture it shifts grays and browns toward a warmer cast. The word Cellulose in the name says that this is a solvent-based paint on a cellulose base, not a paint thinnable with water.

Where it is useful

As a starting tone when mixing the reds and purples that are often missing from ready-made ranges, and as a saturated color in its own right for markings, stripes and colored covers. Because it is very strong, add it to a mixture in small parts and keep checking on a test area. The gloss surface once dry is at the same time a good base under decals.

How to apply the paint

• Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom.
• Thin it with the thinner meant for this range, not with water.
• Spray thin coats, as a thick application of a solvent-based paint can attack bare polystyrene.
• Saturated red and magenta tones show through, so on a dark base reckon with a light base coat.
• Work in a ventilated space and protect your airways.
