Creatures and Witches – a set of acrylic paints from AK interactive, the Quick Gen range

Creatures and Witches is a themed set of water-thinnable acrylics from the Quick Gen range. It aims at fantasy figures: flesh tones outside the usual human palette, sickly greenish and bluish shades and colors for the hair, fabrics and accessories of creatures. The shades are chosen to follow one another, which is what matters with skin, because the transition between shadow and light has to be smooth.

A wet palette and a closed bottle belong together

Painting skin is work for a long session and you have to keep mixed tones at hand for longer than a few minutes. Pour them onto a wet palette, then, not onto a smooth tile where acrylic dries before you can pick it up again. Keep the main bottles closed in the meantime. An open bottle under a work lamp loses water surprisingly quickly, and light flesh tones are the most sensitive to thickening, because every change of consistency shows at once in their coverage. At the end of a session, pour the palette out, wipe the necks and tighten the caps. Dust from the room that settles into open paint will never come out of it again, and on smooth skin every speck shows.
