The velvet green metallic Gunze CV03

The third shade of the short Mr. Color Velvet Color line, which the Japanese brand Gunze offers in a red, a blue and a green rendition. CV03 is the green member of the trio and is filled into a bottle of 18 ml. The binder is lacquer, that is solvent-based, and it is thinned with the thinners of the same paint line. Neither water nor products meant for acrylics belong with it.

How the velvet surface differs from an ordinary metallic

The metallic pigment is exceptionally fine, so the result does not come across as a mirror but rather as a deep fabric with an inner sparkle. At the same time the shade reacts strongly to what lies under it: over a black gloss base it darkens and gains in saturation, over a light base it comes out fresh and greener. A test spray on an offcut of sprue will save you a surprise on the finished body or fuselage. The line suits the hoods of car models, the fairings of motorcycles and the surfaces of figures, where the color is meant to be striking but not garish.

How to work with the paint

• Stir the contents of the bottle properly, as the metallic pigment sinks to the bottom.
• Smooth the surface and spray a gloss base, as scratches would show through.
• Spray in several thin coats, not in one saturated dose.
• Put the shade at the very end, as masking tape will mark the finished surface.

The product is flammable and the fumes of the solvent are irritating. Work at an extractor or at least in a well-ventilated room, protect your airways and keep the bottle closed, out of the reach of children and far from an open flame.
