Cyan

Cyan, an Abteilung 502 oil paint

A cyan oil paint in a tube from the Abteilung 502 modeling range by AK interactive. Like all oils it is thinned with mineral spirits or with an odorless thinner for oils, not with water and not with an acrylic thinner. Cyan is the second of the basic mixing shades alongside magenta: a pure, very light blue with no violet undertone, which is not commonly found on a modeling palette.

A cool accent you cannot get anywhere else

Classic modeling blues are mostly darkened and grayed so that they sit well on vehicles. Cyan is clear and cold beside them, exactly what is needed for a local accent: a reflection on glass, cold light falling onto a surface from above, a warning lamp, turquoise water in a diorama or a light effect on a science fiction or fantasy model. In a thin layer it stays translucent, so on a light base it works like colored glass, while over a dark surface it merely cools the tone slightly.

Where it is useful

• Mixing greens: with a lemon yellow it gives fresh, cool shades, and with blue it gives turquoises.
• Cooling shadows on white and light gray surfaces instead of adding black.
• Colored reflections on glazing, vision blocks and glossy surfaces.
• Water, ice and cool light effects on dioramas and science fiction models.

Who the paint is for

For modelers and figure painters who mix their own shades or work with colored light. Cyan is not suitable for base coats on vehicles, but as an accent and mixing color it is hard to replace.

The paint is thinned with solvent-based products. Work in a ventilated area and expect a drying time of hours to days.
