A resin R-24T air-to-air guided missile in 1:48 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. Printing in resin renders the clear cover of the seeker head, the fins and the control surfaces more sharply than a plastic part from a kit. It is not an aircraft model but underwing armament for a finished model.
The R-24T is the heat-seeking version of a Soviet medium-range missile carried by fighters with a variable-geometry wing. The infrared seeker looks for the target by itself from the heat signature of the engines, so after launch the carrier no longer has to illuminate the target with a radar and can break away at once. The price for that advantage is sensitivity to cloud, to the sun and to decoys. That is why the missiles were carried in a pair with the radar-guided version.
Release the parts from the supports over a working surface and without bending them; the thin surfaces crack. Sand the marks wet and with respiratory protection. Wash the resin in lukewarm soapy water before painting. The cover of the seeker head is often handled with a polished metallic paint or a clear varnish, so that it looks like glass. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
