A resin set of exhaust nozzles for the AL-31FP engines of a Su-30SM model in 1:48 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. On this version in particular the nozzle is the most interesting detail of the whole tail end, because it moves. Printing in resin manages the assembly of petals and the external rods in one piece. It is not an aircraft kit but replacement parts for a model.
The AL-31FP is the version of the turbofan engine with an afterburner in which the whole exhaust nozzle tilts. Deflecting the gas stream changes the direction of thrust, so the aircraft stays controllable even in regimes where the control surfaces no longer bite. On a parked machine both nozzles are often drooped and each at a slightly different angle, which is a rewarding motif for a model, because it gives the tail end some movement.
Release the nozzles from the supports with a scalpel and level the mating edge on abrasive paper on glass. Wash the resin in lukewarm soapy water before painting. Spray the inside before you fit the nozzle to the fuselage. Build the heat discoloration up in very thin layers of transparent toning shades. If you set the nozzles drooped, check on the finished model that the angle looks natural.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
