R-27ER guided missile in 1:32 scale from Temp Models

The set brings a 3D printed replica of the R-27ER guided missile in 1:32 scale from Temp Models. It is not a model of an aircraft but underwing armament with which you complete a finished build. The printed rendition gives the crisper edges of the stabilizing and control surfaces and finer surface detail than injection-molded plastic offers, and above all it does without a seam line across the whole body of the missile.

The real subject

The R-27ER is the version of the R-27 missile with extended range. The manufacturer describes it as a medium-range missile with an increased launch range, which was achieved with a bulkier motor and a longer body. The guidance remains radar, so the target has to be illuminated by the radar of the launching aircraft. Against the basic version the missile is distinctly longer and heavier, which is clearly visible on a replica in 1:32.

Building and painting tips

The parts are printed from resin and are held only by thin supports. Cut them off with a sharp scalpel as close to the part as possible, sand the marks down with fine sandpaper and protect your airways while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint holds longer on a smooth print if you lay a thin coat of primer under it. Paint the underwing weapons separately and glue them onto the model only after the landing gear and the cockpit are finished.
