The model renders an object of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications listed under the designation K-Am-S 40 with the period name U hajecku. It comes from the Czech association ROP o.s., which has long devoted itself to models of the Czechoslovak border fortifications and runs a continuous numbered series of dozens of objects in this scale. The 1:1000 scale means that a finished piece takes up only a few centimeters — it is a collector's model and an element of a landscape model, not a conventional large kit.
Infantry casemates formed the continuous line of border fortifications built in the second half of the thirties. Each object was above all a link in a chain: the embrasures pointed to the flanks to cover the neighboring casemates, while the massive front wall, set into the ground and backed by an earth bank, faced the enemy. The names of the objects, such as U hajecku, usually came from local place names and landmarks in the surroundings and were used in the documentation to tell the individual structures in a sector apart quickly.
The small scale rewards restraint. Start from a gray concrete base, lift the edges with a dry brush a tone lighter and let a dark wash run into the embrasures and the joints. Heavy weathering does not work at this size — it reads as dirt rather than as aged concrete. If the model comes with a groundwork base, the biggest difference is made by combining static grass with fine pigment and separating the growth clearly from bare soil. Handle the parts with tweezers, apply the glue with a thin piece of wire and dry-fit before gluing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
