The color

HMS-05 Pale Clear Orange is a light translucent orange shade from the HMS paint range that Gunze offers and that is put together for the 30 Minutes Sisters kits. A translucent paint does not cover the base but tints it, so the shape and the shade you apply it over stay visible underneath.

How a translucent paint is worked with

An opaque paint and a translucent one behave differently. With a translucent one the richness is built up gradually: every further coat deepens the shade, but none of them hides the base. It therefore pays to start weak and add until the result sits right. The only way back is repainting with an opaque color, which on small parts is rarely pleasant work.

Recommended procedure

• Stir the paint thoroughly before use so that it is the same throughout.
• Apply in thin coats and let the surface dry between them.
• Try the shade on a scrap part painted with the same base as the model.
• A translucent coat looks better on a smooth and even base than on a rough one.
• For thinning and cleaning, use the thinner the manufacturer recommends for this range.
• Close the bottle carefully after work and keep it out of the reach of children.
