A figure from the Rage of Ages fantasy range published by the Spanish brand AK Interactive. It is not a vehicle kit and not an accessory for a model, but a standalone collectible figure meant to be assembled, painted and displayed. The 35 mm is the nominal height of the figure, not a scale in the usual sense, so do not try to compare the set with kits such as 1:48 or 1:35. The castings in this range are resin, which on small characters allows a sharper rendering of folds and weapons than injection-molded plastic can reach.
Resin behaves differently from plastic. Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, so that no release agent residue is left on the surface, otherwise the paint holds badly on the figure and peels off during handling. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers, which shatter resin. Bond the joints with cyanoacrylate glue; cement for plastic does not work on resin. Sand wet and protect your airways, as resin dust is not to be breathed in.
On a figure of this size the first step decides everything. Apply the base coat in a thin layer so that it does not flood the modeling of the face and the fingers; a light base works well on the areas where you want brightness and a dark one where shadow is to remain. Thin the acrylic and apply it in layers, because a thick layer wipes out the detail on a 35 mm character straight away. Shading with a wash run into the folds and then picking the edges out with a lighter shade does more than complicated color mixing. Seal the finished figure with a matte varnish and leave gloss only on metal, eyes and wet areas.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
