Tamiya Side Cutter Alpha pliers in mint green are a basic modeling tool for clipping plastic parts from sprues. They are not intended for metal.
Responsibility details are not available.
A tool from the Craft Tools range by the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya. It is used to separate plastic parts from sprues, the first step of every build. The Alpha version is the basic edition of the tool with plastic handles and a spring, available in several colors; this one is mint green. It is not a precision single-bevel flush cutter, but a reliable working tool for everyday use.
Never cut a part flush at the surface — first cut the sprue leaving a margin of about two millimeters, then trim the remaining stub with a sharp knife and sand it smooth. This avoids stress-whitening on the edge of the part. Hold the cutters perpendicular to the gate with the flat side toward the part. The blade is meant for plastic only: never cut photo-etched parts, wire or metal rod with it, or the edge will get a nick and the tool will stop cutting cleanly. Wipe the blade after use and occasionally add a drop of oil to the joint. Store the cutters with the jaws closed, out of the reach of children.
For beginner and advanced modelers alike, as basic equipment for the workbench. Frequent builders will appreciate a second, finer pair of cutters for the final flush cut at the surface of the part — these then handle the rougher work and sprues, saving the edge of the finer tool.
The tool is supplied on its own and is not part of any kit. Do not use it on metal materials.
