Dark Sea Grey from the British naval color scheme. Worn on the upper surfaces of Coastal Command aircraft and night fighters. Volume: ten milliliters.
Responsibility details are not available.
The British turned to Dark Sea Grey once it became clear that a brown-green desert or field pattern did not work over water. Against a gray sea, exactly this cool tone blends with the surface, and so it spread to the upper surfaces of twin-engine aircraft patrolling the straits, naval fighters and aircraft hunting by night over the islands. Paired with dark green or a lighter gray on the sides, it forms one of the best-known British schemes of all.
Fumes from organic solvents are not harmless. Work by an open window or in a ventilated booth, wear a half-mask with an organic-vapor filter, and do not leave an open bottle standing next to your work any longer than necessary. Keep the paint out of children's reach.
Cool greys tend to look darker on a model than they really are, because a small surface does not catch as much light as a full-size airframe. Many modelers therefore lighten the tone slightly with white or a light gray, especially in small scales. The paint dries to a semi-gloss finish, so decals can be applied directly onto it, and only afterward is the whole model unified with a matte varnish. The bottle holds ten milliliters and is thinned with the lacquer thinner from this range.
