A fantasy figure from the AK Interactive brand. The 35 mm is the size of the figure, not the scale of a model. The figure arrives unpainted, so you choose not only the colors but the whole mood of the result. If you work with a dark palette, the hardest discipline in figure painting awaits you: modulating volume in black.
A black area has nowhere left to darken, so all the volume has to be created upward. That sounds simple, but this is exactly where the commonest mistake arises: highlighting with pure gray. Gray takes the character out of the color and the area starts to look dusty instead of dark. A better approach is to highlight with color, that is to add a cool blue or, the other way, a warm brown to the black, depending on what material the area represents. Two different blacks appear that read side by side as leather and as metal, even though both stay very dark. Keep the whole ladder compressed while you do it: leave a smaller difference between the darkest and the lightest step than would seem right, or the area stops being black. The lightest accent belongs only on sharp edges and on a very small area; the moment you spread it out, the whole job collapses into gray. It also pays to keep the direction of the light the same for the whole figure and to decide on it before the first stroke of the brush.
The figure is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
