Nobody thinks about the rings while they work. They are flexible seals at several places inside the airbrush: around the needle, at the air valve, under the cup and in the joint of the body. Once one of them hardens or cracks, the airbrush starts to misbehave in a way that is easily blamed on the paint or on the compressor. It tends to be a thankless search, because the fault resembles a clogged mouth, yet no amount of cleaning will remove it.
The main culprits are aggressive cleaners and lacquer thinner. Rubber swells after them, loses its elasticity and falls apart at the next disassembly. In the short term that does no harm to the airbrush, but over time a seal behaves as a consumable, which is why the manufacturer offers them separately. This set is intended specifically for the Innovator model; the dimensions differ between individual airbrushes and an approximately fitting ring does not seal. Rinsing with water after working with thinner, and storing the airbrush out of reach of heat, will extend its service life.
A useful insurance for owners of this airbrush, especially if they work with solvent paints and clean often. It will also be appreciated by anyone who strips the airbrush down to the last part and does not want to risk an old seal cracking during reassembly.
