A set of 3D-printed resin figures of Russian Air Force pilots in 1:72 scale from Temp Models, carried as set number 5. The figures are modeled from real photographs. It is not an aircraft model but the crew that belongs with it: a figure next to a model shows at once how large the machine really is.

The real subject

Photographs from Russian air bases show a pilot in several typical situations: on his way out to the machine with the helmet in his hand, talking to a technician by the landing gear, or shortly after landing, when he is unbuckling the harness. It is exactly these everyday moments that make a figure a rewarding accessory, because they give a model a story. The gear consists of a flight suit, a g-suit and a parachute harness.

Building and painting tips

The parts are held only by the thin supports from the print. Cut them off with a sharp scalpel as close to the part as possible, sand the marks with fine abrasive paper and protect your airway while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay a thin coat of primer under the paint, otherwise it holds badly on a smooth print. In 1:72 scale, three tones to an area will do.
