An accessory seat for a model of the P-51 fighter in 1:48 scale, with separate belts. Variant 1 of the pattern.
Responsibility details are not available.
A replacement pilot's seat for a P-51 model in 1:48 scale. The belts are separate parts, so they are not glued to the pan in one position and you can arrange them yourself: thrown over the edge of the shell, hanging down to the floor or laid out in the seat. That is exactly what makes the biggest difference with an open cockpit compared with the part from the kit, on which the belts are only suggested in relief.
On the P-51 the seat is visible from above through the slid-back canopy and, with the cockpit closed, through the clear part. It is one of the few interior features that stay in view on a finished model, which is why it is worth spending a little extra time on it. Separate belts also make it possible to suggest that the pilot has just left, which gives a scene with an open cockpit a story.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand off what is left, so that the mating face stays flat. Then wash and degrease the parts, otherwise the paint holds badly on the smooth surface. Set the seat into the cockpit dry before you glue the fuselage halves together and adjust any overhang. Paint the belts separately and fit them last, so that they are not bent during handling. The exact gluing procedure and preparation of the parts follow the manufacturer's instructions. Apply the paint in thin coats so that the fine texture of the pan stays legible.
For modelers who build the P-51 with an open cockpit and want more in it than relief. Paints, glue and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
