A title devoted to the part played by Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Regiment in Normandy in 1944, from the night jump to the fighting for Carentan.
Responsibility details are not available.
Easy Company was a company of the second battalion of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the American 101st Airborne Division. On the night of 6 June 1944 it jumped over Normandy as part of the airborne element of the landings. Because of anti-aircraft fire and confused navigation the jump was scattered and the soldiers gathered into mixed groups in the dark. That same morning a small group from the company seized a German artillery battery at the Brecourt farm, which was shelling one of the beaches. The fighting for Carentan and further weeks among the Norman hedgerows followed.
The publication concentrates precisely on the Normandy period of this unit, that is on the stretch from the jump to the withdrawal from the front. Easy Company is among the best documented American units of the Second World War and its way through Normandy can be followed practically day by day.
The airborne theme is among the most rewarding subjects for figures and for scenes alike. The equipment of an American paratrooper of June 1944 has a number of distinguishing marks that are worth watching: the jump smock and trousers with large patch pockets, an equipment bag fastened to the leg and a camouflage net on the helmet. Norman scenes also offer the typical setting of stone walls and deep sunken lanes.
The publication will appeal to anyone interested in the history of the American airborne units and to modelers who build figures or scenes from the first days after the landings and are looking for support on the details.
Models, figures and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
