A material for low vegetation, specifically for imitating green moss. On a diorama moss is a small thing, yet it decides the impression of age and damp in a scene. It appears where there is shade and moisture: on the north side of stones, at the foot of walls, on stumps, on the bark of fallen trunks, between cobblestones and at the edges of forgotten concrete surfaces. It is moss that tells a freshly built wall apart from a wall that has stood for fifty years. The green variant is the livelier one - it suits a damper, shaded and rather summery scene where the moss is meant to look fresh.

Use

• Set the material down in small irregular tufts rather than a continuous area; in nature moss grows in islands.
• Follow the logic of damp and shade - the foot of a wall, a joint, the base of a trunk, the sheltered side of a stone, never the tops exposed to the sun.
• Combine shades; a single tone of green across the whole scene looks artificial, while a transition to a darker and browner green looks more believable.
• A small amount of finely crushed material can be worked into the joints of cobblestones or into cracks in concrete.
• Moss works well together with wet and glossy effects and with darker streaks that suggest where the water runs.
