About product

Revell Contacta cement (13 g)

Contacta from Revell is the classic solvent-based cement for polystyrene in a tube weighing 13 g with a fine needle applicator in the cap. Compared with the thin Contacta Liquid variant it has a thicker, gel-like consistency, and that is its main advantage: the cement does not set at once and does not run, so even with large parts you have time to settle them calmly, offer them up and fine-tune their position before the joint sets. It is applied to the part before the joint is closed — a drop or a thin line with the needle, exactly where it belongs. The cement works on the principle of a plastic weld: it attacks the surface of the plastic and welds the mating faces firmly together. Thanks to the fine needle the application is precise even on tiny parts, where a heavy layer of cement would overflow and damage the detail.

Use

  • With the tip of the needle apply a thin layer of cement to one of the faces to be joined — always sparingly, as any excess is squeezed out and mars the surface.
  • Offer the parts up, align them and hold them for a few tens of seconds; allow longer for full strength to cure.
  • Ideal for large and heavy parts (fuselage halves, hulls, chassis) that need to be shifted before the cement sets.
  • Suitable for polystyrene modeling plastics. It does not bond resin or metal — use cyanoacrylate glue for those.
  • Do not use it on clear parts (canopies, windows, lights) — the solvent and its vapors will fog them irreversibly.
  • Close the tube carefully after use so the cement does not dry in the needle; clear a blocked needle with a thin wire.

Who it is for

For modelers of every level, from beginners to experienced builders. The thicker Contacta is a versatile cement for any workshop — it serves best during the rough build and when gluing larger assemblies. For the final, invisible joints the thin Contacta Liquid variant with a brush is more suitable, as it flows by capillary action into a joint that is already assembled; ideally you keep both at hand and combine them as the situation requires.

A flammable substance. It contains organic solvents — use in a well-ventilated area, do not breathe the vapors, and protect it from open flame and sources of ignition. Avoid contact with the eyes and skin. Keep out of the reach of children. Not suitable for clear parts (it fogs them).

FAQ

This Contacta in a tube is thicker, gel-like, and is applied with a needle applicator to the part BEFORE the joint is closed — so you have time to settle the parts calmly. Contacta Liquid, by contrast, is very thin, is applied with a brush onto a joint already offered up, and flows into the seam by capillary action.

When you are gluing large or heavy parts that you need to shift and align before the cement sets — fuselage halves, hulls, chassis. For the final invisible joints that are then sanded, the thin variant is better.

No. It is a solvent-based cement for polystyrene — it softens the plastic. For resin and metal use cyanoacrylate glue, and for clear parts a special glue for clear plastic. Contacta would fog canopies and windows.

Close the tube carefully after every use so the cement does not dry in the needle. If the needle does block, clear it carefully with a thin wire.
