The 1:144 B-2 Spirit bomber from AMP is an injection-molded plastic kit of a machine laid out as a flying wing. It will please collectors of modern military aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit captures the American Northrop B-2 Spirit strategic bomber, a machine laid out as a pure flying wing with no conventional fuselage and no vertical tail surfaces. Although the scale is small, the finished model is among the largest pieces by span that can be built in 1:144 scale.
The bomber came about in the 1980s as a carrier of nuclear and conventional weapons meant to reach heavily defended targets thanks to its low radar reflectivity. It first flew in 1989, entered US Air Force service in the second half of the 1990s and saw combat over the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. Its crew is two airmen, its wing span reaches about fifty-two meters and its range is extended by refueling in flight.
The whole surface of a flying wing is seen at once, so it pays to spend time on sanding the joints and on a filler primer, which reveals unevenness before the final shade does. The characteristic dark finish looks better when the shade is gently graded panel by panel; an airbrush handles the transitions more sensitively than a brush. We recommend finishing the weapons bays and the landing gear bays before the airframe is closed.
The package holds parts to assemble, not a finished product; do not look for paints, glue or other modeling supplies in it.
