White Pearl is a white pearlescent shade from Gunze's Mr.Color modeling range. Pearlescent paints contain fine particles that do not reflect light like a mirror but scatter it, so the surface shifts tone depending on the viewing angle and the lighting. They are used on car bodies, motorcycle fairings, sci-fi equipment, and anywhere a finish should have depth instead of looking like flat white.
A pearlescent coat needs a smooth, carefully prepared surface, since it highlights every scratch and fingerprint. Mix the bottle thoroughly — the particles settle to the bottom, and poorly mixed paint covers the surface unevenly. Apply several thin coats and let them tack up; a heavy coat drowns the pearl effect and the surface loses depth. Use the thinner and mixing ratio recommended by the manufacturer for this range. The final look also depends on the base shade, so it is worth testing on a scrap of plastic before working on the model.
Let the pearlescent surface dry thoroughly before applying decals or a clear coat; a fresh coat is soft and masking tape can easily lift it. A gloss varnish will make the pearl effect stand out, while a matte one will subdue it. Repairs are trickier with pearl than with a covering paint, since the transition between the old and new layer is visible, so it is better to respray the whole area.
The model, thinner, brushes and airbrush are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
