Tamiya Fine Pivot Drill Bit 0.7 mm is a fine drill bit with a thickened shank of 1.0 mm diameter, intended for precise holes in plastic, resin and photo-etch.
Responsibility details are not available.
A drill bit with a 0.7 mm cutting part and a uniform clamping shank of 1.0 mm diameter. Seven tenths of a millimeter is a practical diameter for the wire used for cabling, lines and rigging: the wire goes through and yet holds in the hole, so the joint can be secured with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue without wobbling. A uniform shank means that the bits of the whole range are changed in the holder without resetting the collet.
The bit is still in the range where it breaks by bending. Keep the axis perpendicular therefore and do not press; the tip is meant to bite by itself. Always mark the center before drilling, ideally twice on a curved surface, so that the dimple that arises is level. When the hole serves to join with wire, drill a little shallower and try the fit, rather than drilling through the part. Blow the hole out before gluing the wire in, because remaining swarf stops it seating. With photo-etch, back the part with a hard board, otherwise the thin sheet bends and the hole comes out oval. Wipe the bit after use and do not store it loose among other metal tools.
For modelers who detail engines, add lines and join small parts with wire pins, and for builders of ships and biplanes, where the credibility of the rigging depends on the number of precise holes.
The drill bit is a sharp and fragile tool. Keep it out of the reach of children and protect your eyes while working.
