Rock mold, stream bed from Woodland Scenics is a flexible casting mold for a plaster casting of a stony river bed. It forms the basis of a watercourse on a diorama or a model layout.
Responsibility details are not available.
While ordinary rock molds give vertical faces and boulders, this one is intended for a horizontal element: the bed of a watercourse with stones, pebbles and scoured hollows. The casting is laid into a prepared channel and becomes the base over which an imitation of water is only then applied. It is precisely the bed that decides how the resulting surface will look, because through a transparent layer every stone and every transition of color is visible. The mold is an aid for repeated use, not a finished part, so you can cast as many connecting stretches as the stream needs on a scene.
Dampen the mold, pour mixed modeling plaster into it and let it set. Lay the casting into the hollowed-out channel and work its edges into the surrounding terrain with plaster slurry, so that the bank follows on with no visible transition. Painting comes next: the middle of the course tends to be the darkest, the shallows by the banks lighter, and individual stones are accented with a dry brush. Let the paint dry thoroughly, and only then apply the chosen imitation of a water surface according to the instructions of its manufacturer. Several castings in a row will create a longer stretch of the course; fill the connecting seams with plaster and level them by sanding. Wash the mold with water after the work.
Plaster, paints and the imitation of a water surface are not included in the package. Mix plaster in a ventilated space and protect your eyes and airways.
