A plaque 25 mm in size with the badge of the GIGN, the intervention unit of the French gendarmerie. Unlike most plaques of this range it aims at present-day subjects, so it suits vignettes with modern figures, police and gendarmerie vehicles and display cases focused on today's special units. It is neither a model nor a part of one: the plaque serves as a label for a scene and is settled on a base, a plinth or a strip.
The GIGN is the intervention unit of the French gendarmerie, set up in 1974 in answer to the rise in terrorist attacks and hijackings. It concentrates on freeing hostages, apprehending dangerous offenders and protecting individuals, and it operates in France as well as abroad. It came to wide notice through the operation against the hijackers of an airliner in Marseille in 1994. Its members go through a demanding selection and the unit remains the main counterterrorist arm of the gendarmerie to this day.
With present-day subjects a restrained patina is called for: leave the plaque rather clean, with only a gentle lightening of the hollows, so that it matches more modern, less worn vehicles. A semi-matte surface reads more naturally with current units than a strong sheen. Before settling it, check that the mating surface is flat and dose the glue in drops onto the center, so that it is not squeezed out toward the edge.
